Dating back to 1765, this historic home was once the most well-known building in Lewes. It has survived the 1813 shelling of Lewes by the British during the War of 1812 and still has a cannonball lodged in its side to this very day! It is also considered to be extremely haunted. Reports here include footsteps and screams, possibly related to the death of a female that once lived in the home during its early years.

  • Felt a cold spot in upstairs room

Upon entering the reputed museum I was hopeful to have some sort of paranormal experience although I was entering as a skeptic. My children and I had been busying ourselves with museums and had been referred to the house. Long story short we get in there and start looking around. When the guy at the counter told us the place was indeed haunted I asked if there were like cold spots or audible voices, or how the supposed spirit manifested her presence. I was told footsteps behind you. When we got to the second floor landing I stood between the two rooms and humoring myself introduced myself and my kids to the ghost. I asked her if she was there if she could make herself known. It was during my second walk through of the upstairs bedroom that I felt a pocket of ice cold air. Not like a blowing wind it was as if in this one section was 55 degrees while the rest of the room was 75. I tried to debunk it by looking around for vents and there were no vents over the cold pocket. If I had equipment and the time I would check it thoroughly, but my experience was enough for me to at least be open to the possibility that some part of us might survive the death of our bodies.
